Bradbury Science Museum Visitor Comments
Nancy Bartlit—Master of Arts Communication Thesis
University of New Mexico
May 1998

The published Masters Thesis can be found in the Mesa Public Library, Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Nancy's University of New Mexico Masters Thesis analyzed comments written in a ledger by visitors to the Bradbury Science Museum. The comments reflect observations to exhibits on a Forum Wall during the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII. The thesis, entitled, A Communication Analysis of Visitor Comments after Observing an Antinuclear and a Veterans' Exhibit in the Bradbury Science Museum of the Los Alamos National Laboratory, May 1998, can be checked out of the Mesa Public Library, Los Alamos, New Mexico. This thesis is a hefty 320 pages—a gold mine of primary resource material bracketed by Nancy's three analyses.

A lengthy quote of a Hiroshima bomb survivor in the thesis was used in the recent article entitled New Mexico, Japan Bound by Technology and Tragedy, in the Santa Fe New Mexican, in July 2015. Both viewpoints are quoted regarding the dropping of the atomic bombs. The most moving comments are by the veterans who disagree with those against the dropping of the two weapons, but are willing to return to the military to fight for the right of all Americans to express their opinions. ❇
